Are the app and bill measuring the same thing?
Solar generation is the energy the system produces. Some can be used in the home and some may be exported. Grid imports are electricity supplied to the home by the utility. These figures are not interchangeable.
Your monitoring equipment may not include home-consumption measurement. Check what each screen represents before comparing its total with a bill.
What changed since the last bill?
Compare the dates and number of days on the bills, the recorded grid usage, and your solar totals for those same dates. Note changes such as more air-conditioning use, an EV, extra occupants, or a different electricity plan.
Ask your electricity provider to explain rates, charges, export credits, and any plan change. A solar service visit does not determine your provider’s billing terms.
When is this a solar service question?
If monitoring shows an unexplained production change or an equipment alert, request a system review. If production appears consistent but charges changed, start by asking the provider to explain the bill. Both questions can exist at once.
Before purchasing more panels or a battery, clarify whether your goal is more generation, backup power, or changing when stored energy is used. These lead to different project scopes.
What should I share with a professional?
Send your city, the production date range, equipment details, and the concern you want reviewed. If providing a bill, remove account numbers, payment details, and unrelated personal information. We can discuss the solar service scope and any additional information needed.
