Critter Guard Installation

Squirrels and pigeons love the shaded gap under an array. Critter guard closes it off before they chew wiring or turn your roof into a nesting site.

  • Perimeter mesh secured to the array
  • Nest and debris removal first
  • Wiring inspected for chew damage
  • Airflow under the panels preserved

Most of our calls start the same way

A homeowner in DFW gets a roof estimate after a hailstorm, and the roofer says the same thing every time: “We can't touch it until somebody takes the panels off.”

That's the moment most people find out solar removal is its own trade. Roofing crews generally won't do it, and for good reason — pulling an array involves live DC wiring, rails bolted through your roof deck, and equipment warranties that can be voided by the wrong hands. So the roof job stalls while the homeowner tries to find someone who does this specific work.

That's what we do. We take the array down, store the panels safely on site, get out of the roofer's way, and come back to reinstall once the new roof is on. Then we confirm the system is producing before we call it finished.

We also do the quieter work that keeps a system healthy in between: cleaning and maintenance, production troubleshooting, and critter guard to keep animals out from under the array.

Straight answers on the two things people ask first

“What's this going to cost?”

Removal and reinstall in the DFW market generally runs in the low thousands, driven mostly by how many panels you have and how hard your roof is to work on. We publish the ranges and the factors that move them on our solar panel removal cost page rather than making you call to find out.

“Will insurance pay for it?”

Often, yes — when the roof replacement itself is a covered claim. Removal and reinstall is frequently handled as part of the roof scope, but it is not automatic and it depends on your policy and your adjuster. We walk through how that conversation usually goes on our hail and insurance page.

Roofing contractors: we're your solar subcontractor

If you're a roofer, you already know the panel houses are a scheduling headache. We built a whole page for you — turnaround times, how the handoff works, and what we need to hold your date. See the contractor page.

Why Choose Sun Ray Solutions?

We're not another solar sales company. We don't sell you panels — we take care of the ones you already have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to remove my solar panels to replace my roof?

Yes, in almost every case. Panels are mounted to rails that bolt through the roof deck, so the array physically has to come off before shingles can be torn off and replaced. Roofing crews generally will not remove panels themselves because of the live DC wiring and the equipment warranties involved, which is why a separate solar contractor handles that part.

How long will my panels be off the roof?

Usually the same window your roof job takes. Removal is typically a single day, the roofing crew works with a clear deck, and reinstall happens once the new roof is finished. On a straightforward residential job that is commonly two to five days from removal to reinstall, though it depends on your roofer's schedule and the weather.

Do you sell or install new solar systems?

No. We are a service company, not a solar sales company. We remove, reinstall, clean, maintain, troubleshoot, and protect systems that are already on your roof. That also means we have no reason to talk you into a new array.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Sun Ray Solutions LLC carries liability and workers' compensation coverage. We can provide a certificate of insurance for your records or for your roofing contractor's file on request.
