Identify the actual roof product

The words metal roof are not enough to select solar attachments. Ask your roofer for the manufacturer, product name, profile, and relevant roof drawings. Standing-seam and exposed-fastener products should not be treated as interchangeable.

If you have not chosen the roof yet, make solar reinstallation part of that conversation. Resolving the proposed attachment method before the roofing order helps avoid a last-minute assumption about what can be reused.

Review the complete mounting arrangement

Ask which existing components are candidates for reuse and which need replacement. Panel dimensions, the proposed layout, roof structure, and the mounting product’s requirements belong in that assessment.

A product marketed for metal roofing does not automatically fit every roof profile or project. Confirm the selected combination against the relevant manufacturer instructions and project requirements. This guide is a planning checklist, not an attachment specification.

Put the roof and solar scope side by side

Keep the agreed details with both contracts. Ask each contractor about their own workmanship terms; a new roof warranty and a solar workmanship agreement cover different work.

Budget for the change before removal

Sun Ray’s removal and reinstallation planning rate is $160–$220 per panel. A roof-material change can introduce additional materials or design work, which must be identified in the project quote. Do not assume a basic same-layout reset covers a different roof system.

Send existing array photos, panel count, the proposed roof product, and your roofer’s contact. If the new roof changes the panel locations, flag that request at the same time. We review the project before confirming equipment, pricing, or dates.
