The short answer: plan three milestones

There is no single removal-and-reinstallation timeline that fits every roof. Plan the solar removal, the roofing work, and the solar return as separate milestones. Time spent doing the work is different from the full period your panels are off the roof.

For a Sun Ray Solutions project, dates are confirmed after review of the property, equipment, roof schedule, materials, and any applicable requirements. Do not treat an estimated roofing completion date as a confirmed solar appointment.

1. Before the removal appointment

Give the roofer and solar contractor the same project information: address, roof sections, panel count, new roof material, target date, and known system issues. Confirm the work authorization and equipment storage arrangement.

A leased system, changed roofline, missing equipment records, or proposed layout change may need additional review. Resolve those questions before treating the roof and solar dates as final.

2. While the roofing work is underway

Keep the solar contractor informed about deck repairs, material changes, weather delays, and the revised roof-ready date. Confirm who is responsible for equipment storage and the roof’s temporary protection during the gap.

Ask the roofer what must be complete before solar attachments can be installed. Any waiting period should come from the applicable roof, equipment, project, or provider requirements—not a generic number copied from another installation.

3. Before the solar return

Confirm the roof is ready, required approvals are addressed, the mounting approach is agreed, and access is available. The solar contractor can then confirm the return appointment and any remaining materials.

Manufacturer-managed service has its own policies. Tesla’s published removal and reinstallation process uses separate requests and agreements for its service. Its scheduling conditions should not be treated as a universal Sun Ray Solutions timeline.

Questions that prevent a scheduling surprise

  • Is the removal date confirmed or only requested?
  • Who tells the solar contractor that the roof is ready?
  • Where will the equipment stay if roofing takes longer?
  • What roof or equipment changes would affect the return?
  • What checks and follow-up are included after reinstallation?

Save the answers with the written quote. If the schedule changes, update the homeowner, roofer, and solar contractor together.

Budget for scope, not an assumed number of days

Sun Ray Solutions publishes removal and reinstallation at $160–$220 per panel, with no travel fee. The quote sets the storage, materials, checks, and any additional work. A longer gap does not tell you the price without reviewing that agreement.

What should you confirm before setting the roof date?

Give the solar contractor the confirmed panel count, affected roof sections, roof material, access details, and whether the system is working. If the count or mounting type is still unknown, say so before a price or appointment is finalized.

Keep three dates in the project record: solar removal, the roofer’s expected completion, and the separately confirmed solar return. Share schedule changes with both contractors. Send the roofing job details for a scope and availability review.
