Share the drawings and project contacts
Provide available roof plans, elevations, electrical plans, and the builder’s contact. Mark any planned skylights, roof equipment, or features that may affect the usable array area. If drawings are preliminary, identify which parts may still change.
The goal is to coordinate decisions before each trade treats its own scope as final. Solar layout, roof work, electrical equipment, and potential battery locations should use the same current project information.
Estimate future use with clear assumptions
A new home may not have a year of electricity bills. List the planned HVAC, water heating, cooking equipment, EV charging, and other major loads. Tell the installer about expected occupancy and any later additions being considered.
Ask the proposal to label its usage and generation assumptions. An estimate based on planned equipment is not a measured history or a guarantee of future bills. It can be refined as the construction details become firmer.
Coordinate the construction milestones
| Project stage | Solar question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Design development | Where can the array and any battery equipment fit? |
| Roof and electrical planning | What details need coordination between trades? |
| Scope approval | Who is responsible for each part of the project and applicable approvals? |
| Construction scheduling | What must be complete before solar work can proceed? |
| Home handover | What records, checks, and operating guidance are provided? |
Distinguish preparation from a complete installation
If you want to prepare the home for solar but install later, have the scope state exactly what preparation is included and what remains for a future project. The phrase solar-ready should not substitute for a detailed agreement.
Sun Ray can review a new-construction solar request with the homeowner and builder. Send the address or site location, current plans, expected construction stages, and whether battery backup is part of the goal. Pricing and scheduling are confirmed for the actual scope.
