Identify the type of monitoring problem
These symptoms can require different actions. An account provider may need to handle account ownership or recovery, while an on-site communication or equipment issue may need a service visit.
| What you see | Information to gather |
|---|---|
| No account or unfamiliar app | Equipment brand, original records, and whether ownership recently changed. |
| Cannot sign in | The app name and the type of account-access issue, without passwords. |
| Old readings | The last update time and any recent router or internet changes. |
| Current readings with low production | Dates, comparable records, and any equipment alerts. |
| Missing equipment after service | The work date and which devices no longer appear. |
Keep account ownership with the proper provider
If you recently bought the home, ask the equipment or monitoring provider what records are needed to establish access. The seller’s password is not an appropriate substitute for an authorized account handover.
Sun Ray can review the equipment and explain the service request, but cannot promise control of an account, bypass provider permissions, or restore records that the provider does not make available.
Prepare for a communication review
Tell us whether the problem began after internet changes, electrical work, or a service visit. Send the app timestamp and safely visible equipment details. Do not open enclosures or move wiring to check connectivity.
SolarEdge’s owner guidance specifically uses the last-update time to help distinguish communication problems. That product guidance is an example; other systems have their own indicators and support steps.
Agree on the work and service terms
If an on-site visit is needed, the $200 nonrefundable service deposit covers the visit and initial assessment and is credited toward approved repairs. It is retained if repairs are declined. Additional equipment, subscriptions, or repair work are not assumed included.
Ask what the proposed scope will accomplish: identifying equipment, assessing communication, reviewing a monitoring fault, or verifying reporting after an approved repair. A connected app alone does not establish every aspect of system performance.
